Galaxy Cluster

This newly released detailed simulation of the current state of the universe's large scale structure is centered on a large galaxy cluster and was created as part of the Illustris simulation. The distribution of what is thought of as "dark matter" is shown in blue and gas distribution is in orange over a region which is about 300 million light-years across. 

This image also resembles a neural network, root system, mycelial network, the internet's structure and the patterning of the construction of modern cities. We are the universe learning about itself...
