Luisa Sobral - Not There Yet
Quem diria...português...
Originally from Portugal Luisa grew up listening to music and began playing guitar and writing music when she was 12.
By the age of 16, Luisa participated in a famous Portuguese TV show for vocalists called "The Portuguese Idols" where she finished in 3rd place.
In 2004 she played on the Portuguese Golden Globes and one year later took a role in a musical called danger in the oceans that took place in one of the best theaters in Portugal; Lisbon Tivoli. Luisa always felt a need to express herself artistically, before studying music she thought of starting a career as an actress but she soon realized that her true love was music.
Therefore, at the age of 18 she decided to apply to Berklee College of Music where she finished her degree with distinction in 2009.
Artists like The Beatles, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet baker, Keith Jarrett, Bjork and Tom Jobim are her main musical influences.
Some of these artists were introduced in her life during her childhood, like her father s favorite band The Beatles.
The others appeared in her life to help her define her music and finding her vocation in life.
During her academic career she was nominated for many awards including Best jazz song at the Malibu Music Awards 2008, a nomination for Best Jazz Artist at the Hollywood Music Awards 2008 plus a finalist in both International Songwriting Competition 2007 and The John Lennon Songwriting Competition 2008 on the jazz category.
Her determination mixed with her ability to write and sing from her heart is at least inspiring and according to The John Lennon Songwriting Competition juries; What an inspiration!
We can't wait to hear it, Luisa!
