O Dilema do Ouriço

— Arthur Schopenhauer, “Parerga e Paralipomena”

— Ritsuko Akagi, “Neon Genesis Evangelion”

Medo do abandono.

Algumas pessoas escolhem a primeira opção.

3. Precisamos desenvolver a tolerância
Desse modo, é essencial desenvolver a tolerância.

Hedgehog Symbolism & Meaning

Do you feel guilty when you need a little alone time?
Looking to fine-tune your intuitive abilities?

Hedgehog, as a Spirit, Totem, and Power Animal, can help!

Hedgehog teaches you to cherish the stillness and quiet time necessary for personal growth, all while heightening your psychic awareness.

Delve deeply into Hedgehog symbolism and meaning to find out how this Spirit Animal Guide can awaken, inspire, and enlighten you!

A Hedgehog is a petite Animal with many positive attributes and lessons for supporting your spiritual quest.

The critter has an intense symbolic connection with motherhood, inner peace, and pure happiness. Hedgehog could well be the most carefree mammal in the world unless it feels threatened.

Your Animal Ally packs itself into a tidy ball and exposes a bundle of tiny quills, over 5,000 of them if you’re counting, to give any predator second thoughts. For this beastie, the spikes bear no barbs or poison; this means Hedgehog embodies non-aggressive defense and quick resolutions.

A Hedgehog has strong ties to the Earth Element. Its belly is always close to the ground, so Hedgehog stays centered and connected to the Mother. Perhaps this is why people in Iran say Hedgehog Medicine includes fertility and abundance, particularly for the land. They also feel Hedgehog is a Solar Animal, an icon of vitality. When you see the Hedgehog’s array of spikes bursting outward like sunlight, it’s easy to understand why the ancients would make this association.

In an interesting dichotomy, Hedgehogs are nocturnal.
So, you have the logical, fiery daylight on one side of Hedgehog meaning,
and the psychic, intuitive, visionary night analogies on the other;
this gives Hedgehog an energetic balance between the Moon and the Sun or the material and spiritual realms

Observations of the Hedgehog and their physical attributes provide even more insight into this amazing Animal Ally. Consider how Hedgehogs are resistant to snake venom. So, European tribes embraced Hedgehog as a representative for victory over death or evil forces.

Meanwhile, the Greeks and Romans watched Hedgehog knock grapes from the vine and pick them up on their quills, toothpick style. They made Hedgehog an emblem of intelligence, ingenuity, and cleverness.

The British regard Hedgehog as a no-nonsense kind of critter; regional depictions show Hedgehog displayed against an autumn-themed backdrop as a nod to the Hedgehog’s habit of hibernating in leaf piles. Throughout this region, people check for Hedgehog homes before lighting bonfires to protect them. The latter efforts are a dramatic contrast from earlier history in which the British called the Hedgehog an “ugly little thing” . At one point, people even accused Hedgehog of being a malicious Medicine Person in disguise.

Folklore and superstition are replete with Hedgehog lessons and metaphors.
The Romans trusted in Hedgehog as a harbinger of spring, much like people look to the Groundhog in the United States (the settlers looked for an alternative since there were no Hedgehogs in the New World). If the Hedgehog emerged early in February and saw its shadow, there would be six more weeks of winter. Hedgehog would then go back to sleep. Aristotle seemed to agree with the perceived predictive nature of Hedgehog, saying they could foretell the changing winds. Pliny conjectured creature had two entries to its lair, in the south and north, blocking the one where the winds come in the heaviest. So, as a Spirit Guide, Hedgehog corresponds with the North and South Cardinal Directions, the Earth and Fire Elements, power, stability, will, and vigor.

Some felt the Earth Mother Herself could take the form of a Hedgehog, particularly in Babylon. Here, Ishtar, the Goddess of Love, had Hedgehog as a Sacred Animal. Similarly, in the Slavic fairy tales, Hedgehogs often appear as wise and gentle guides with ancient knowledge and magical power. Finnish stories say Hedgehog brought soil and sand to the region by using its needles to create dry land. In Latvia, lore suggests God was not great at measuring when He made the heavens and the Earth, with the Earth turning out much larger. A Hedgehog suggested God reach out and Squeeze the Earth, which created mountain ranges. The creature’s reward for such wisdom was a suit of needles.

The Hedgehog is a frequent visitor in Balkan folk tales as well. In one, it talks the Sun out of marrying. Hedgehog also speaks to the Sun about having many fire-born children, explaining how everything on Earth would burn. In another such story, Hedgehog finds a magic plant that opens locks, revealing hidden treasures.

The Brothers Grimm have a story about the Hare and the Hedgehog. The creatures participate in a race. Spoiler alert! The Hedgehog wins in a story of brain versus brawn.

Hedgehogs enjoy their independence, remaining aloof and reclusive and only gathering to mate.
They’re a fortunate creature for gardeners, making them a Companion Animal for those working in agricultural careers or those with a green thumb!

With Hedgehog Spirit, don’t let its small size fool you; this is a purposeful and mindful animal teacher with some big surprises in store for you!

Hedgehog Spirit Animal

When the Hedgehog Spirit Animal comes along, it’s often because you feel like other people will never understand you. There’s a surging desire for curling up inside and hiding behind a pasted-on smile. Hedgehog understands this and says if you feel guilty about needing alone time, don’t. It’s okay to retreat, but you can’t stay inside a shell forever. There will always be instances when you misunderstand others may not understand your occasional need for isolation.

A second reason you may have Hedgehog stopping by as a Spirit Animal is to spur your curiosity and activate your inner explorer. There is a whole, glorious world in which to take part. Garden, hike, gather up nifty items on a beach. Then, kick your heels up at the end of a long day, take a deep breath, and enjoy a moment downtime. Relaxation is in their playbook!

Hedgehog is not a bull-headed Spirit Animal. It waddles in unassuming, yet you “know” this Being is present. Sometimes Hedgehog wants you to understand you don’t need a lot of fanfare to stay true to yourself and make an impression. Stay centered; be yourself. You have talents, and they will shine through.

When working with Hedgehog, you may find your sense of smell and hearing heighten, akin to Hedgehog’s natural abilities. Taken to a spiritual level, you can experience moments of Clairalience or Clairaudience. Pay close attention to the messages you receive as they often have to do with your health, safety, and protection.

At first glance, the hedgehog may not seem like much. With its spiky exterior and bewildered expression, it’s easy to underestimate this little creature. But don’t be fooled, the hedgehog spirit animal is packed with symbolism and wisdom that can help us navigate the world around us.

It reminds us to be prepared for anything and to have a tough exterior when we need it. The hedgehog also symbolizes self-discovery and pursuing one’s purpose in life with determination. Let’s explore the message of the wisdom of this endearing creature.

Hedgehog Totem Animal

People born with a Hedgehog Totem Animal are gentle, curious, and embody positivity. You know life will toss curve balls and feel confident in your ability to respond and protect yourself. Facing confrontation isn’t something you person enjoy (you’ll avoid it, if possible), but no matter what, getting through challenging times seems to be your forte.

If Hedgehog is your Birth Totem, you have no time for the “Debbie Downer” type. When you sense people with bad vibes, you go the opposite direction with as much haste as you feel the situation warrants. To be safe, you may voice your agitation before you go, making a statement that prevents any unwanted energy or thoughts from following behind.

Hedgehog People can be a tad oversensitive because of heightened caution about anything and everything. It’s easy to misread people’s intentions, and the latter is something that happens to Hedgehog People a lot. The key to such situations is what you do about it afterward. Own your mistakes. Be honest with others and then get things back on the right track.

Those with Hedgehog Totems have a physical resistance to literal or figurative poisons. That means being careful. Consider the amount of alcohol you might consume; for example, a Hedgehog can consume may be more than the average drinker; this can make a person prone to overindulgence. Alternatively, the Hedgehog Totem might feel “safe” with a substance, when a danger exists; remain diligent and aware. Know yourself.

Personality-wise, Hedgehog is a nature lover. They could spend all day fawning over one flower bed or fussing with the perfect placement of a new sapling. Being outside is healing and rejuvenating for Hedgehog. Without an environmental recharge, they become sad, withdrawn, and lack any form of motivation. If your Hedgehog friend or lover says, let’s go on a picnic, go for it!

Hedgehog Power Animal

Invoke Hedgehog Spirit to help you when communing with the Earth Element or to improve your communication and interaction with nature as a living, vital system. Weather Shamans can also get great insights from Hedgehog when a little more perspective would go a long way.

Reach within to Hedgehog Power Animal when you feel like your communications are going awry. Don’t give in to the temptation to give up. Hedgehog helps motivate you, supporting you as you minimize defensiveness and remain authentic.

When it’s time to relax and have fun, and you can’t seem to manage change on your own, let Hedgehog help. Remember, taking breaks inevitably improves your focus and decision-making capabilities. Your Power Animal says, “Everyone needs time to play.”

Hedgehog Dreams

When Hedgehog appears in your dreams, it means you are feeling exposed and misunderstood. If the Hedgehog curls into itself, you have already moved into a position of protection, but perhaps it’s without necessity. Check to see if you are overreacting.

If you meet a Hedgehog in your dream, you will soon encounter a new acquaintance who will prove honest and loyal.

Be aware; color associations can also change dream meaning. For example, a White Hedgehog means you need to come to peace with yourself for something in your past. It’s time to start fresh!

Protection
The hedgehog is no stranger to adversity and survives by rolling into an impenetrable ball when threatened. This protective nature helps steady our nerves during difficult periods and reminds us not to be afraid when facing tough roads ahead.

The hedgehog is a life guide that will help you in the face of challenges. One of the biggest challenges that the hedgehog is best suited for is security. This animal guide teaches you to trust your instinct and to know that you are safe.

It uses its discomfort to protect its life from dangers. When the hedgehog feels threatened, it will roll into a ball which makes it hard to attack. If it is confronted with danger, it does not fight but instead gets rid of it. This is something that is natural to this creature. The hedgehog knows how to defend itself without having to hurt anyone or anything else. This animal guide teaches you to be aware of your surroundings and how to be mindful of your own natural tendencies.

It helps us in facing life challenges and looking within ourselves for answers, rather than seeking them outside.

Time to relax and reflect
When you are faced with stressful situations, the hedgehog may appear in your life or your dreams to help calm you down. The hedgehog can teach you ways to deal with these situations. These signs may appear as a memory from the past, or they may be presented as a metaphor that allows you to make sense of what’s happening currently in your life.

Curiosity
The hedgehog’s inquisitiveness, bravery, and adaptability make it a perfect symbol for curiosity. Hedgehogs are quick to poke their noses into the world around them. It is believed that this curiosity protects these small creatures from predation by larger animals.

They are willing to explore anything they find in their path and will often go where others fear to tread. They have a number of sensory receptors, including those for smell and taste, which they use to make decisions about what is safe to eat and what should be avoided.

They seem to explore new things and are always looking for a way out, no matter how many times they get stuck. It’s their determination that makes them strong animals.

So what does the hedgehog offer us when it comes to taking risks and going for the unknown supported by the power of curiosity? The hedgehog represents an exploration of possibilities that will often require risk-taking on behalf of individuals. When we allow our curiosity to guide us, we’re more likely to explore our potential and try new things–even if they don’t work out all the time. This lesson is something that can be applied in many aspects of life.

Taking the next steps in life
The hedgehog teaches us that we can be careful and methodical when it comes to exploring new opportunities. Note that there is a difference between being careful and being afraid. Some people are naturally more risk-averse, but you can overcome this by using the hedgehog’s instincts to your advantage. When faced with new opportunities, you should conduct a careful examination of the risks involved. Once you’ve taken into consideration the potential good and bad outcomes, decide whether or not to go forward with it based on your own risk tolerance level. Over time, as you take small risks, your confidence in making those decisions will grow, making more challenging decisions easier in the future.

Solitude
Hedgehogs tend to shy away from the company of others, they are not social creatures. He is a “homebody” and does not roam outside of his territory. He tends his own area with great care. He may go out to investigate what’s going on out there but he will quickly retreat back under cover if he feels threatened. His natural instinct tells him that it’s safer to stay at home rather than risk facing some unknown danger.

The hedgehog’s nocturnal nature helps to explain his withdrawal from the world of the day, as he can retreat back into his den at nightfall, relatively safe from whatever dangers might be lurking in the darkness. At night, he buries himself in the ground or under leaves. He also covers himself in a protective spiny armor, forming a ball to protect itself from against predators.

The hedgehog shows us that it’s perhaps time to spend some time alone to recharge. It is content to escape into a world of its own and to spend time in the safety of its den. It teaches us that it’s OK to be or live alone. Solitude is not the same thing as loneliness, though. Solitude refers to the time when someone chooses to be alone, while it is loneliness that is the state of being alone and wanting to be with other people.

Patience
The hedgehog is a great symbol for patience. They are not the fastest animals in the world, especially when compared to something like a cheetah… However, they have their own way of getting things done. They are careful planners and do not make sudden moves or decisions that could leave them vulnerable or at risk of danger. Instead, they take their time and find the right opportunity for success before making it happen. They are also famous for sleeping most of the time! This makes them an excellent teaching animal spirit guide to help you become more patient in your own life.

Gentleness
The hedgehog teaches others to be gentle. You can see this through their spines. They are actually quite soft, but they serve an important purpose in the hedgehog’s life. They help protect them from predators and are kept within the correct boundary of spikes. If a predator is to attack, they use their spines to repel them.

The hedgehog’s charm consists of the fact that it is prickly on the outside but soft on the inside. The natural defensive nature of the hedgehog is very gentle and self-sacrificing, and it teaches people to not be afraid to give up their own needs for others’ safety.

Self-Reliance
The spines of the hedgehog are actually hollow hairs that make it look intimidating – but it actually helps protect them from danger and harm. It is similar for people who learn to master their own inner fears and find a way to cope with them in healthy ways. The hedgehog spirit animal can teach you new ways to overcome your fears from the inside out. You will see this in your life when you start to learn to rely on your own powers and decide for yourself what you need.

Embracing the mystery
The hedgehog is an animal that is  nocturnal, which means that they are most active during the nighttime, and therefore, during times of darkness. Its spirit teaches us to embrace “the unseen” as it often reveals good things in our lives. The hedgehog spirit animal encourages us to find those treasures in our darkness, and to know that there is more to us than meets the eye. It spirit teaches us to embrace hidden gems and secret keys.

The hedgehog’s attitude to life is summed up by this quote from Paulo Coelho’s novel The Witch of Portobello: “We do not see things as they are but instead make them up.”. As a spirit animal, the hedgehog teaches us to live in the shadows, and to never judge ourselves or others too harshly. It is not afraid of the dark. On the contrary, it will sit there quietly and wait for what it wants to happen. The Hedgehog does not care if you see it or not; all that matters is that it is patience itself.

A few facts about the Hedgehog

Who doesn’t love cute animals that teach us about life? When it comes to choose an animal guide to guide your next steps, the hedgehog might not be the first one to come to mind, but it definitely has a lot to teach us.

This little critter has a lot of personality.
It is slow, stubborn, but also warm and friendly. If you’d like to become a likeable person yourself, you can take a few pointers from the hedgehog spirit animal and its characteristics.

The hedgehog has many layers and surprises.
They might look like an easy target with their all soft skin and little spikes, but they are actually quite strong and hardy! The spikes are hollow hairs. They almost look like quills or needles on some animals, but they serve as protection for the hedgehog from predators that would harm them. They are the only animals in the world that have this kind of covering, which is really interesting and unique.

The hedgehog has the ability to roll into a ball.
This might seem obvious when you think about it, but can you imagine trying to do that? The spikes would be sticking out all over the place! It would be impossible. They use this as a defensive mechanism, using their spines to protect themselves from predators trying to harm them. It is super neat to watch, and hedgehogs can pretty much do it in their sleep!

A Mindful Meditation
With The Hedgehog

Imagine you are a hedgehog coming out of hibernation, feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your day…

Imagine what it feels like to come out of hibernation for the first time in the spring, when all there is in front of you is new life. You feel at peace and free from worries. The noises surrounding you do not bother you or scare you; you are able to hear your own thoughts as well as the thoughts of others around you. Your spines help protect you from anything that might hurt or frighten you. You are happy to be alive and to see all the new creatures, flowers, and plants around you. You know that this is supposed to happen every year, but sometimes when there are big changes in your environment, it can be a little scary, but today everything feels right and peaceful. So right now, close your eyes and imagine what it feels like to come out of hibernation for the first time in spring for a hedgehog.

Take a few more moments to really feel the peace and warmth. How does your body feel? How do you feel emotionally? Do you have the urge to move around?

Do not think about what’s coming next or anything that came before, just try to be in the moment and notice what is right here, right now. Take a few minutes just to be with yourself.

Now that you’ve learned how to come back to yourself. When you feel the fear, anger, frustration, or anxiety of the world weighing on you again, come back here and find yourself. Remember it is okay to be happy, enjoy a moment of peace and quiet that only exists in this moment. The rest will be there when you get there; it always has been there. You will always have time for everything that is important if you take care of yourself when you need it.

Take a deep breath in and out through your nose, allowing all of the air to go down into your lungs and then out again. Keep breathing like this until you feel completely relaxed, and when you do notice that the sounds of everyday life have surrounded you again as well as the warm sun beaming down on your face, giving off and spreading its heat through all parts of your body.

You are now refreshed and ready to take on the next part of your day.
This meditation has been for you.

Nocturnal – Hedgehogs sleep during the day and are primarily active at night.
Spiny defense – They have a coat of protective spines that they can raise or lower. When threatened, the spines are erect to deter predators.

Hibernation – Hedgehogs prepare nests to hibernate during cold winter months when food is scarce.

These distinctive hedgehog traits have contributed to how humans interpret them throughout folklore, dreams, and art across cultures.

Hedgehog Symbolism By Culture

Hedgehogs have amassed symbolic meaning in many ancient cultures and spiritual traditions. Let’s explore some examples of hedgehog symbolism by culture:

Christian Hedgehog Symbolism
  1. Good vs. Evil – Early Christian texts use the hedgehog as a symbolic embodiment of good against evil. The hedgehog’s protective coat of spikes was thought to literally ward off evil and demonic spirits.
  2. Virtues – Later Christians viewed the hedgehog’s solitary, minimalist habits to represent virtues like humility, introspection, austerity and quiet veneration of God through self-denial.

Symbolic Hedgehog Meanings

By analyzing hedgehog symbolism across these cultures, we can decipher some core symbolic meanings repeatedly associated with these little creatures over time.

Protection
The most ubiquitous symbolic meaning for hedgehogs across all cultures traces back to their natural spiny defense mechanism. By curling into a confined, untouchable ball of spikes, hedgehogs demonstrate the immense power of setting physical and emotional boundaries to protect oneself when feeling threatened.

In Celtic belief, Native American totems, and Christianity – the hedgehog was consistently viewed as a protective symbol. Their exterior armor literally deters predators and evil supernatural forces.

As a spirit animal, the hedgehog signals a need to prioritize self-care, set healthy limits with difficult people or situations, and cultivate personal resilience.

Ultimately, hedgehog meaning relates strongly to concepts like female empowerment, safe spaces, and moral courage.

Introversion
Another prominent symbolic trait is the hedgehog’s solitary, inward-focused nature. These small mammals seem utterly comfortable being alone – attuned to their own thoughts, activities, and needs in the moment.

Celtic legends emphasized the hedgehog’s mystique and ties to the Otherworld, characterizing them as mystical loners or recluses. Early Christian ideology highlighted the hedgehog’s preference for quiet solitude, ascetic living, and turning inward for contemplation and enlightenment.

For people who feel socially awkward, are extreme introverts overloaded by crowds, or struggle with loneliness – the hedgehog represents self-acceptance and reverence for those who stray from mainstream societal expectations.

Ultimately, their symbolic meaning relates to ideals like authenticity, independence, inner wisdom, and fulfillment as an individual.

Resourcefulness
The last major symbolic trait we see is the hedgehog’s admirable resourcefulness and preparedness. As they actively gather materials to insulate their nests and diligently hoard food in autumn, hedgehogs demonstrate the vision and discipline to strategically set themselves up for success – even in lean times.

Both Celtic mythology and Native American symbolic lore honored the hedgehog’s resourcefulness. They viewed this small creature as especially clever, responsible, and in-tune with natural cycles of abundance and scarcity.

As a spirit animal, the hedgehog signals a need to emulate their survival skills – preparing for the future through mindful planning, hard work, and smart resource management.

Here hedgehog meaning relates strongly to concepts like productivity, efficiency, conservation, frugality and common sense.

Os Três Mal Amados

Joaquim

O amor comeu meu nome, minha identidade, meu retrato. O amor comeu minha certidão de idade, minha genealogia, meu endereço. O amor comeu meus cartões de visita. O amor veio e comeu todos os papéis onde eu escrevera meu nome.

O amor comeu minhas roupas, meus lenços, minhas camisas. O amor comeu metros e metros de gravatas. O amor comeu a medida de meus ternos, o número de meus sapatos, o tamanho de meus chapéus. O amor comeu minha altura, meu peso, a cor de meus olhos e de meus cabelos.

O amor comeu meus remédios, minhas receitas médicas, minhas dietas. Comeu minhas aspirinas, minhas ondas-curtas, meus raios-X.

O amor comeu meu Estado e minha cidade.

O amor comeu minha paz e minha guerra. Meu dia e minha noite.

A poucos centímetros, muitos quilômetros.

JOAQUIM: O amor comeu meu nome, minha identidade, meu retrato.

JOAQUIM: O amor comeu minhas roupas, meus lenços, minhas camisas.

JOÃO: Ainda me parece sentir o mar do sonho que inundou meu quarto. Ainda sinto a onda chegando à minha cama.

JOÃO: O sonho volta, me envolve novamente.

JOAQUIM: O amor comeu meu estado e minha cidade.

JOAQUIM: O amor comeu minha paz e minha guerra. Meu dia e minha noite.
