You can't be authentic if you are not free

 

Most religions put a premium on obedience and conformity. 

And most of them frown on any deviation from the established rules and doctrines. 

If you have read the Old Testament carefully, you will find that absolute obedience is presented as the primary virtue that pleases God. 

But if one's spirituality consists only of piety and obedience, then there is no room for mindfulness, which is the essence of spiritual life. 

Real Zen people are wild, not pious or tamed. 

You can't be authentic if you are not free.
